Assessing Hawaii’s Health Care Workforce PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 03 June 2010 19:06
Dr Kelley Withy, MD, PhD, of the Hawaii/Pacific Basin Area Health Education Center has been involved in assessing Hawaii’s health care shortage for more than 5 years. Until now, physician assistants have not been specifically included in the health care demographics. Dr. Withy has identified that there are currently 195 licensed Hawaii PAs, 145 with Hawaii addresses, non-military.
To better understand the role that PAs play in Hawaii’s health care system and the role that they may play in solving Hawaii’s health care shortage she has asked for our help and we are in turn asking for your help. Full participation will give valuable information about the vital function that PAs have in providing health care services in Hawaii.
HAPA is asking for your help in filling out this information. Please complete our ONLINE SURVEY.  It will take you less than 5 minutes to complete. The survey asks your place of practice, specialty, years in practice, contact information and number of hours/week. That’s all there is to it.
All information will remain strictly confidential. If you would like to be listed in a directory of Hawaii PAs please indicate so in the appropriate box. Your help will be most appreciated.

The Physician Workforce Summit takes place on Tuesday, June 29, 2010. It is being sponsored by the University of Hawai'i
John A. Burns Schooi of Medicine, the Hawai'i/Pacific Basin Area Health Education Center and the Hawai'i
Independent Physician Association. We hope to be able to provide Hawaii's Physician Assistant demographics in time for the summit.

Physician Assistant Advisory Committee / BOME
This year the PAAC will be closely monitoring the various legislative committees to make sure none slip under the radar as far as regulatory implications.  We are also involved in the PA Hawaii Census Project. When we discover legislation that affects the physician assistant community this information is shared first with the BOME then reported to the groups affected as efficiently as possible.   The executive secretary of the HMB has requested in writing that PAAC volunteers no longer contact HMB members outside of official business meetings to lobby for policy or rulemaking changes.

The Physician Assistant advisory Committee is here to represent you to the Board of Medical Examiners. Should you have questions of a regulatory or enforcement nature contact us: Vince Tenorio PA-C Secretary, Family Practice; Leonard Duvall PA-C, Family Practice.
